History in Las Vegas

CES began in New York in June 1967. According to the Consumer Technology Association’s official history, the January 1978 Winter CES established Las Vegas as the show’s permanent home. For a period, CES operated more than one annual edition, but the organization consolidated the event into a single yearly show held exclusively in Las Vegas beginning in 1998. The 2027 edition therefore continues a Las Vegas history that spans several decades. The event has changed in scale, venue footprint, and subject matter as the technology industry expanded beyond traditional consumer electronics into software, mobility, health, infrastructure, and enterprise applications.

Location

The Las Vegas Convention Center is operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and provides approximately 2.9 million square feet of exhibit space, 225 meeting rooms, and multiple registration and lobby areas. CES uses this campus for large product categories and exhibition halls, while other official venues support specialized exhibits, conference programming, media events, and private meetings.
