We feature real Nevada builders. Pre-revenue companies are welcome. To qualify, your company must meet both tests:
- Nevada-based. An active Nevada state business license, and a Southern Nevada location: a founder who lives here or an office here. Registered agents and virtual mailboxes don’t count.
- Past the idea stage. You either have a product customers can buy or use today (software that’s live, hardware or devices that are shipping or in paid pilots, or a product on the market), or you have raised outside funding from an investor or received a grant. A waitlist, prototype video, or pitch deck alone doesn’t count.
Startup or Service Provider?
Startups come in every form: consumer apps and products, software and AI, data and analytics, fintech, health and life sciences, gaming and entertainment, hospitality and travel, sports, real estate, energy and water, hardware and devices, aerospace and drones, e-commerce, media, and marketplaces. What they share is a product or platform the company owns and is built to grow beyond what the founders could deliver by hand. The test is simple: do customers pay for your product, or for your team’s time?
| Qualifying startup | Service provider (standard pricing) |
|---|---|
| Customers buy or use a product you designed and own: software, a device, equipment, a platform, or a physical product | Customers hire you to build, configure, install, or run something for them |
| Revenue comes from subscriptions, licenses, usage, unit sales, or marketplace fees | Revenue comes from projects, retainers, hourly billing, or done-for-you packages |
| Examples: an AI scheduling tool clinics use themselves; a water-sensor device sold to golf courses; a drone inspection platform | Examples: an AI agency that builds custom chatbots for clients; an IT managed-services firm; a contract manufacturer making other companies’ designs |
AI companies: using AI doesn’t make a company a startup, and building AI doesn’t make it a service provider. What matters is what customers buy. AI consultancies, automation and implementation agencies, prompt engineering and AI training services, “AI-powered” marketing or development agencies, and resellers of other companies’ tools are service providers. A company whose customers use its own AI product is a startup.
If you do both, we go by where most of your revenue comes from. Mostly services means standard pricing. Service providers are always welcome to publish press releases and Business Spotlights at standard pricing.
Participation in an accelerator, incubator, or cohort does not qualify a company on its own. Every company must meet both tests above.
