Biography – Booking Talent From New York to Las Vegas

MARTIN GOVER, founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Momentum Sports Management, Inc., is one of the nation’s pre-eminent facilitators in the pairing of athletes with corporations and charities. For decades, he has been a presence in New York and Las Vegas, helping organizations book legendary sports talent for every manner of event.

“My love for sports was second to none, and I always wondered what it would be like to one day work for a sports franchise, or to be a sports agent,” he says. “I never lost sight of that vision. My best job was working part-time for a decade for a sports management company, gaining valuable experience working with athletes, learning sports marketing, and great exposure to the sports memorabilia business. Eventually, the opportunity arose to create Momentum.”

Momentum Sports Management today has covered virtually every cornerstone in its field, including the pairing of sports stars with more than 50 charities and fund raising organizations, helping to raise some $100 Million in the process. Its corporate client base includes some of the leading apparel companies in the area, as well as event planning and public relations companies, assisting with their special projects and charity connections.

Gover has dispatched his celebrity-laden roster of athletes and media personalities to cover such diverse events as corporate golf outings, sports memorabilia auctions, publishing projects, retail store openings, tours of the New York Stock Exchange, camps and school appearances, charity cocktail parties, speaking engagements, “meet & greet” corporate appearances, holiday parties, casino ‘high roller’ parties, and
nightclub openings.

Momentum has specialized in working with retired athletes from all sports, and focused on players from the Yankees, Mets, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Rangers, Islanders and Devils, as well as professional boxers. Among its most successful ventures have been “theme parties,” bringing teammates from New York’s legendary championship teams to specially created events.

The fulltime and part-time experiences have given him more than a quarter-century in dealing with the public and numerous corporate clients in the service business arena. His career even took him to the NYPD Police Officer and Cadet Training Program and to several years with the New York City Police Department, where he was assigned to the 69th Precinct in Brooklyn. But he eventually returned to the technology field to work with JP Morgan.

“I knew I enjoyed the service business; the people side of things. I love working one-on-one with people, whether on the corporate side or with the athletes. I’m outgoing, sociable, and I wanted to utilize my people skills. At last, I was able to live my vision with the opening of Momentum,” he says.

Gover today presides over one of the major athlete placement agencies in the US, and is a frequent spokesman himself for the sports business community.
