The EU AI Act is a major new piece of legislation that will regulate critical AI systems. It will apply to providers of AI systems placing them in the European Union market and users of AI in the EU. As the text of the Act is being finalised, this session will provide an update on key provisions including how to deploy a risk-based approach and how to design a governance structure that provides appropriate accountability.

**John Bowman** joined IBM’s Chief Privacy Office in October 2022 as AI Ethics Market Strategy Lead. His role includes advising on enhancements to support regulatory compliance, helping to create a deployment framework, and commercialisation of select IBM CPO assets. Previously, John was a Senior Principal in Promontory, IBM Consulting; and before that John worked at the UK Ministry of Justice where he was Head of EU and International Data Protection Policy.
